Lets examine why WSTL as CPE vendor for BEL dmt can make money...First lets look at Ilec/Clec war for DSL service using Bel as an example...Bel is Ilec for NE corridor and has approx 41mill wired lines if a CLEC/LD company wants access to these line here are the rules of enagagement....BEL offers that Clec/LD to pick one of two options...first if the Clec/LD wants to access to copper AND DSL they can buy it for 20% off list price most small Clecs will use this option...Second, the CLec/LD can lease just the copper for aprox $10-12/line/month and use their own DSLAMS and CPE for DSL service, Covad is doing this and probably WCOM...Sprint is actually building their own CO...You might ask how does this effect BEL...First, competitive pricing power in DSL service will no question belong to BEL, they have more wired lines than any RBOC...Companies like WCom are not Ilecs and will not have volume ADSL modem pricing like BEL..Now combine BEL lines with GTE and now your at 63mill lines..ALSO BEL plans to enter markets as a CLEC and offer DSL like SBC is doing in boston...BEL will be the biggest VOLUME RBOC in the WORLD with most volume in units and high quality equip. BEL DSL service will be competive anywhere they chose in the USA...The NYC DMT deployment is nearing and ALA at CO and WSTL at CPE looks just fine when you look at the foot print of BEL-GTE...BEL DMT vendors awards will eventually end up with both BEL-GTE(volume ordering for comp.advtge)..But remember LU will not be denied in the BEL-GTE COs they will win their fair share of SLC-2000 business and 5ess...FEB-MARCH will be WESYELL time, June and beyond should have BEL,BT,GTE and LU keeping the WSTL manf. lines jumping....Look at the WSTL charts starting in Feb for 96 & 97.....
