Penni, tomorrow I wake up a 40 year old person. I'm not sure what that means except I've been raised to believe I'm supposed to feel different.

I watched the Sean Penn movie tonight. As I was leaving I had the strangest experience. I was in such deep thought about the movie that I drove and didn't realize where I had gone. Maybe it was the rain, or maybe something else, but I sorta woke up at an intersection not 5 miles from my house and couldn't identify it. So I drove until I recognized something familiar. Weird huh? I wonder what it all means. Or perhaps it means nothing.

Thinking of what those men sacrificed so many years ago in the jungles of the the south pacific gave me a deep feeling of insignificance. How did they do it, how did they overcome their fears, how did they endure the unendurable. It seems so long ago, yet in was really only a blink of an eye. The Japanese people are now our dear friends. How quickly we went from horrid enemies to such close friends. It's truly remarkable. Seeing war close up always gives me that sense of awe. Perhaps more so tonight.

I long for knowledge, knowledge about those things I know not. When I consider the things I knew 10 years ago, I was truly ignorant. I have a feeling ten years from now I will think the same about my knowledge today.
