Razor, perhaps in evaluating the oil sector a historic comparison would be of help. Major oil shares are within a whisker of the absolute lows of 1986. A worthwhile analysis would bring one to compare the outlook then and now. Also meaningful for evaluation purposes is a comparison of the price of a barrel of oil in the two time periods. An evaluation may lead one to initiate a position in the major oils, via a mutual fund or other vehicle with a quixotic eye on entering a position in other types of oil stocks. Hope this helps.
