Michelle, I caught about 5 minutes on the radio. It was timely, though. The Clinton woman attorney (is there more than one?) was leading into a video clip on Clinton's Dec. 17 call to Monica. She claimed the house managers had done what I expected them to do, put on a show of carefully chosen clips to demonstrate Starr's carefully constructed "truth". She said Monica totally contradicted what the House managers claimed transpired, and then started playing that part of the Monica video.

I forget who the interviewer was, but they started out saying that Clinton talked about 3 things, something about Christmas gifts, Bettie Currie's brother being killed in a car accident, and Monica showing up on the Jones witness list. The House guy asked what Clinton said about Monica being on the Jones list. Monica said, "He said it broke his heart". Then she broke down and asked for a break.

Almost broke my heart too. I'm beginning to understand why the Clinton haters are so relentless, they have to work so hard to dehumanize what Clinton's really good at. Yes, he's dishonest, but in the world he works in, well, beats having Mondale, Dukakis, or Jimmy Carter leading the Democrats. But he's a human being too, as is Monica. All a slick act? Maybe, but I don't think that's what Monica thought, then or now.

Clinton antichrist? Clinton Capone? Clinton Caligula? I hope the moral reformationists keep pushing that line, all the way up to the next election. With so many Good Christians in the party, I'm sure plenty will oblige. Many will here, too. I'm sure the Starr Inquisition will be there with its indictments the day Clinton leaves office, too. Starr better have some good venue shopping tricks up his sleeve, though, I'd love to see him make his case in front of a DC jury.

Then there's Monica's upcoming Barbara Walters interview, after the trial goes out with a whimper. Touchy feelie Baba is going to have the whole world watching for that one, many more than saw today's show. No House managers in the video edit booth either. Of course, there's always the specter of Grand Inquisitor Starr hauling her back to the chambers if he doesn't like what she says, but that would take some nerve on his part. I wouldn't put it past him, though. No predictions, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Republican bleeding continues for a while more.
