Your use of the futures market is exactly the purpose for which it was intended, as a hedge against the underlying cash portfolio of SP stocks. That use as a hedge eventually developed into program trading against fair value. Speculators who trade the contracts as a market item itself today provides the liquidity needed in that market for investors like yourself.

You made a wonderful and intelligent discovery for yourself..... your discovery is much like discovering fire on your own although it was already being used on the other side of the hill for many years. I mean that in a kind way.

I trade only the futures because it is more liquid than stocks and I can buy and sell complete portfolios in one purchase or sale. I have been for years.

Congratulations on your insight.

My Best Regards.
