chuzzlewit, it is better to thought a little out there than to post and remove all doubt. i quote from the 10k...

sec.yahoo.com

>>In the home office category, unit volumes of personal computers increased significantly as
compared to last year and more than offset an approximately 20% year-over-year decline in average selling price.<<

chuzzle, the only thing i'm sure of is that you don't make any sense. the 20% figure was either for 3 months or 9 months. if it was for 3 months then the only assumption is that the other 3 qs dropped at the same rate as q3. they might have dropped MORE or LESS. it it was for 9 months then only one month is left out and the assumption is for one q.

it is kind of ambiguous in this regard. however, your dividing by 2 stuff doesn't figure in anywhere. hello?!?!?!

btw, what planet do you live on if you think asps for computers only went down 7%? not earth... do you get out much?

also of note here is that, in the case of bby, they were able to offset the asp decline by selling more units. they gained share. that means somebody else did much worse... you can be successful, but it gets harder and harder as the pie shrinks...
