Big Pharma Scoreboard 2/06/99

-Big Pharma gave back 2.1% as compared to declines for the S&P (-3.2%) and the NAStie (-5.3%)

-The Cox IIers PFE (+1.7%) and MRK (+1.8%) were the only Pharmers to show gains. Nice article on the Coxers was published in Business Week

Its arthritis drug is selling faster than anything since Viagra"

-GLX (-6.4%), AMGN (-6.4%) and PNU (-6.1%) took the biggest hits in end of the week profit-taking off the all-time Pharma high.

-YTD, PFE (+4.7%) has moved into second place behind AMGN (+14.4%).

-GLX (-8.6%) is in the cellar for the first time ever.....Probably Monday's best short-term buy in Big Pharma. Bookmark this one GLX@ 63.50.

The 1999 Pharma Portfolio Challenge: 1/23/99

Motley Fool /SI Challenge Highlights: Results are listed on the AOL Motley Fool PFEr Board.

-Congrads to MBTAY (+7.1%) for moving up to the #1 position (Portfolio: 75% PFE, 25% AMGN). Way to go, Michelle!

-Ron Flanagan (+6.7%) leads the SI entrants with an equal trifecta of PFE/MRK/AMGN (Portfolio: 33% PFE/MRK/AMGN, 1% Cash). The Leprechaum is bringing in a pot of gold.

- JLABIF's (missing in Action but not forgotten) favorite portfolio SHORT PFE (-4.7%) remains in the basement (Portfolio: 100% short PFE)

- A new composite portfolio...PEABODY PURCHASE** (+3.0%)...has been added to the Challenge. A total of $833 of PFE will be purchased whenever Mr. P makes his Valley purchase calls. Accordingly, PFE purchases were retroactively made on 1/10/99 (PFE@ 117.00) and 1/12/99 (PFE@110.25). A total of 77% of the portfolio remains in cash for possible future purchases at Valleys. (Current Portfolio: 77% Cash, 23% PFE)
