Wow! These guys amaze me. At least they told you they "made a mistake" I my case it was all put in my lap instead. I totally agree with you that the margin department is incompetent. Just my story of 800,000K worth of a short position on 14K in equity is enough to show that :) The thing I don't understand is why this stuff is not automated. All they have to do is say if Joe investor has X equity and attepts to purchase a position that is > 50% of this equity, do not allow the trade to go through. They are working with computers after all! This is why I have decided to close my account with them, assuming it is not already closed. It is not worth the risk of these random mistakes that one is held responsible for!
