Major Organizational Shake-up Imminent at Microsoft
Ballmer and I started our careers out of college with the same company, P&G. (Of course, Steve has been on a little better career track than I have!) Proctor is known for solving problems before the competition even knows they exist, and I think Steve is on the right track. I don't think any company has ever existed that has as high a percentage of smart people in it as MSFT. The trial "snafu" just proves that brains without judgement can be deadly.
This week's PC magazine has an article by John Dvorak on Adobe's loss of market to MSFT with Photodraw. Softy's products and marketing continue to kill the competition.
I spent 15 years as a headhunter, which should give you a good idea of how large company's work. I am really in awe of what Gates and Ballmer have built.
