MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1999--(NASDAQ:OPMRF) Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (NYSE:GAP), a lead grocery retailer, has agreed to install two U-Scan(R) Express self checkout systems and is considering a possible rollout in up to 20 stores in 1999.
U-Scan(R) Express is the only system available in North America today that allows shoppers to scan, bag and pay for their purchases all on their own, with cash or debit or credit cards, in most cases with no need for assistance from store personnel.
