Instead, Microsoft will offer separate versions of Windows 2000 for each market.

"NT 5.0" is in bigger trouble than I thought.

My XFree86 desktop looks just like Windows to me. The "start" button is in the lower left corner. It has a Red Hat logo instead of a Windows logo. That's about the only difference. The Applix Office Suite is great and only costs $72 - $89. Linux will ALWAYS be more powerful and reliable than Windows. For $80 you can add a commercial version of Linux and an Office Suite to your existing PC. Why not run Windows AND Linux? More and more people are figuring this out. And as more and more applications are ported to Linux the masses won't go back to Windows.

RedHat 5.2 $29.99

Applixware $89.00

StarOffice $49.95

WordPerfect $49.00

It is looking to me like this is a big boost to Linux and personal computers that don't crash.

Bill Gates on Linux ...

LinuxMall editor's note: Mostly FUD, but he is right about some of the advanced speech & handwriting recognition functionality being needed in the OS so all applications can use it. But there is no reason Linux cannot do it better... And I don't think MS will be able to keep up. (February 1999)

Linux ... the best things in life are free.

Try bottomdollar.com for even cheaper prices. (Applixware for $72.)
