HG, the reason I mentioned the upgrade option in the first place was that you will NOT need a $300 card for multi-monitors with a win98 win/NT machine. Many $40 vid cards will do just fine--just install more than one card in the same machine. As a bonus, you can get more current and widely used technology than is on the STB PCI multi-mon card.

PCI cards will still work in virtually all new systems, but that will mean leaving the AGP slot that comes on all recent motherboards empty. AGP allows for more speed and capabilities than PCI (tho, in your case, you will admittedly be unlikely to notice much difference in the near future.) It is what all new boards are using.

I do a little consulting for $ and lots for free. In either case, I tend to advise people to upgrade their motherboard or their whole machine when the costs for a specialty upgrade exceed a couple hundred $ and they are at least one processor generation behind (both true in your case.) Many advantages to this, IMHO--not the least of which is that you can keep your old machine intact for a backup and/or if something needs "tweaking" in the new machine. (As a trader, you know reliability is paramount--hence the advisability of having a second option in case of problems.)
