ZP, I am sure that your PM/HDD problems have nothing to do with Maxtor's hardware--rather with MaxBlast. As Sean suggests, I'd ditch it. Use fdisk from dos if need be to scrap your old partitions. Make sure that your bios is set for LBA after autodetecting the HDD. This should let you format. If you're using PM 4.0 (or even better, 4.01--thanks for the news on the new patch), you should be fine. Sorry about the frustrations with this--it shouldn't be that difficult, but I know from experience that things which shouldn't be often are. :(
