I have to admit that I was surprised to see the impeachment process survive after the election. It is almost as if the founding fathers anticipated that a renagade president would commit these obvious crimes only in an environment where his opposition has shown profound cowardice and lack of conviction, and that the process should give a few obscure heros among that opposition the opportunity to arise and take charge.

Therefore at every turning point so far the rule of law has prevailed against all odds. I agree with Gigot that it's victory in history is secure despite the ultimate verdict Friday.

As of today, the consistantly-wrong establishment media is making estimates of how many Republicans will cross the line to acquittal by Friday. Let me give them my estimate based on careful analysis of the last 3 1/2 months: absolutely none. In fact, I predict that Graham's killing of early censure possibilities today, combined with the incredible pressure of being defined forever as pro-perjury and pro-obstruction will result in a maximum acquittal vote on either article of 38 to 40 votes.

It is a shame, IMO, that the longest continuously-surviving political party in the history of democracy may have only half a dozen honorable men left in it. But a 45-Democrat acquittal would be much more of a stain on that once-respectable party.
