Sorry ZP, I may have misunderstood. What's the current status of your problem? Still there? I am not clear why your drive wouldn't format without Maxblast, provided it was recognized in the bios as an LBA drive.

Don't mean to be a maxtor defender, & I overstated in my last post--just that based on my own experience, there are lots of potential glitches with ANY > 8.4 gig IDE drive--the bios, OS and patches, and PM version all have to be in alignment. Given that your drive is working at all, it's much, much more likely that something here is haywire than that the drive itself is misbehaving.
