Compaq is walking on the edge of a razor with its evolving electronic-commerce strategy

"The company (Compaq) is doing roughly $400,000 in business online daily. That may seem small at first for an organization Compaq's size-chief competitor Dell is selling $10 million daily-but those sales represent just one product line, its small and midsized business PCs, and it comes after just three months of online sales, compared with Dell's years of efforts.
But online sales also represent a threat to Compaq's survival. Indeed, the pressures of online sales vs. channel sales are faced not just by Compaq but by any big company in any industry that relies on channel partners."
