Patent granted to Maxwell Energy Products covering a double layer capacitor: patents.ibm.com U.S. Patent #5,862,035 "Multi-electrode double layer capacitor having single electrolyte seal and aluminum-impregnated carbon cloth electrodes", issued Jan. 19,1999. They previously got one (U.S. #5,777,428) on an "Aluminum-carbon composite electrode", that also describes an 'ultracap' type capacitor. This new patent covers a structure with two interleaved electrode stacks, each having multiple electrodes connected in parallel. ............... ............... ............... ............... ............... ABSTRACT: A single cell, multi-electrode high performance double layer capacitor includes first and second flat stacks of electrodes adapted to be housed in a closeable two-part capacitor case which includes only a single electrolyte seal.
