The Office company might look at how well their own Macintosh unit does and decide to make a deal with Caldera or RedHat to include Linux in an LinOffice package. Either of those groups could decide to make their own browser, or get one from IE, Mozilla, or Spyglass -- all of whom would be forced to follow open standards

This approach would be suicidal!! Mac-Office is acceptable since Apple builds the hardware and the O/S. I would never develop Office for a company in the Operating system business (only). Linux could then get PC makers to get wide distribution of its O/S along with a Linux Office package. MSFT's control of the O/S would be lost. It should never be done for anyone other than Apple (which was done out of a law suit settlement )in the home computing market.
Just my opinion.
