John--Who is a scaremonger and who is not is going to get very confusing (esp. for those relying on zdent op/ed pieces written by Howard Belasco to guide them in their thinking on evaluating the y2k problem...Didn't he just write something suggesting people prepare? For two weeks was it?) Oh well, never mind THAT. Consider this:

Taken from the Netly News report date 04/01/98 covering a Senate hearing...

***But at the Senate hearing today, legislators weren't buying Koskinen's sunny optimism. "We've gotten classified reports that are so disturbing [on y2k] they had to be classified," growled Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.,) the chair of the governmental affairs committee.***

Now do you think we're getting all the news we need to know about the situation from prepared statement reporting a la the Glickman's Senate testimony? Maybe we should be wary of Howard Belasco's evil (and forked) tounge?
