kevin AMd biggest problem is Sanders has not pushed production past critical mass. it continues to operate near the break even point ...ok just under the break even point. AMD need more manufacturing leverage to catapult past the marginal cost of production while covering the overhead. The german fab holds a promise for this to happen. the real reason Barret dropped chip prices so low was not becasue he wanted to to hurt amd , he did it becasue he had to in response to market demand. I interview at least 20 cpu salemen knowledgeable about celeron and to a one the all expressed intels troubles trying to make celeron sell as a percived value it's just not there. given the choice and informed consumer perferes AMd with 3D 64 bit processing with 256k casch, over a similar clocked intel offering with 32 bits no 3D, and 126 or 160 casch. The whole decision is made simpiler when the AMd is priced less. In the race for the eyeballs as Grove stated I can't imagine how intel underestimated the consumer preference for advancements in graphics. If it was'nt for improvement in graphics we could stop the chip clocking race at 300 mhz. Look at the proudest piece of apple's new G-3 box ATI rage 128 graphics accelerator and 16mb of loaded graphics memory. Get the picture intel seems not to have it in hand. The k-7 with german engineering promisses to be an Intelincenerator. A shure bet to give barret a case of the irish red face, another pretty picture.
