G'day Zeev, seppo & all - while I am not japanese but in fact quite igorant of her culture, I have partook, in an off-and-on manner, in her pop culture [teevee] and I am afraid a giant advertising campaign is not enough. If one is to use its t.v. shows to personify the zeitgeist, back in the 70s, every samaru [historic or modern] show had the rising sun in the background. Even the cheesy Godzilla movies! Now, the pop culture is the Pokimon [yup, one can catch it here in the US in most mornings, but they don't induce seizure - at least I didn't get one that I had hoped for <G>.] I mean, even Godzilla sold out the Rising Sun and decided to wreck havoc in NYC.

While politicans are a big part of her problems, the whole nation has to engage in some soul searching. In a way, her predicament is more a norm than an exception. In the past, after the war, there was n'thing to lose to rebuild, pheonix-like from the ashes. Now, she worries too much of losing. Simple psychology. To reverse this plague of psychology, they will need more than one PR man... except maybe the Emperor himself by restoring part of the mytho to the nation

best, Bosco
