I posted this at RB and thought i'd post it here as well..

I spoke to Daniel Lunt at WCTI a few weeks ago as i had the same question concerning the
multi-lingual feature and how it would work. To summarize:

In later releases, you will be able to do a search using english and it will query almost any
language and it will give you the results back in english. You then go to that site and view it in
its natural language. This will be great for people who speak more than one language. For
example, I could search on the word "stocks" and it will do a global search in the language if
my choice. Any sites of releveance in that language will appear "in-context". You can then
surf to that site an view it. This will be HUGE for multinational corporations who maintain
huge databases with foreign counterparts in other countries!!! Initially, the engine will NOT
translate other websites back to english. According to Mr. Lunt, this may be pursued in later
releases, however not in the near future. He told me that WCTI has contacts with machine
translation companies who would be involved in this sort of project in the future.. Sounds like
a MAJOR project though. In future releases, he said that it would do phonetic translation of
languages such as japanese and russian, where a different alphabet is used... All in all, by
the time Mr. Lunt and Wordcruncher Internet enter the 21st century, we will ALL be
multi-lingual!! :)
