It won't change the index entries from pages that have already been crawled. Subsequent crawls will reflect the new alias even on old posts, but old indexes will always reflect the original alias from when they were first crawled. If the person finding it on a search engine clicks on the URL, they will know both your old and new alias. Such is life.
