Brainstorming is fun
It is. How to make money on Linux? This $64,000 question never goes away. I guess, we need to look for companies who might decide to make Linux their main business. It won't be traditional DELL or CPQ. They will sell Linux more than anybody else, but most of their earnings will come from their traditional businesses. It won't be a hardware startup. If there are money to be made on Linux, DELL and CPQ will immediately murder any competition. Software companies. It's very hard to predict which software will take off and how much of it can be sold, at least at this stage. What about service companies, system integrators, etc.? Are there any public companies whose main business is service, or service of Unix systems even better? Not behemoths like IBM or EDS, but much smaller and less visible companies. Companies that may become good candidates to provide support for DELL when DELL starts selling Linux systems. Linux may become their main business and propell the stock price. Just my 2c. |
