Recently E-trade stuck it to me when I put in a sell order for a stock. At the time I had two stocks in my e-trade account - one with 400 shares and another with a 1000 shares. I put in a sell for the 1000 share stock because I thought it was going down. Instead, they sold the 400 share stock plus 600 shares of it that I didn't have. I clearly did not do a short sell. They said that I must have put in the wrong stock symbol, which I don't think I did. I asked them to prove it to me and they wouldn't or couldn't.

Well, sure enough, the stock I wanted to sell went down and the one I wanted to hold (which they sold short on me) went up so I was stock with loses on both ends. The worst thing was that I was going to buy more of the 400 share stuck, but their mess up distracted me as I tried to clean it up. It doubled shortly thereafter.

Does anybody have any good advice on how I can fight them (inexpensively)
