Scumbria, re: I am somewhat concerned about future job prospects in the microprocessor design
business. I've spent a good part of my career doing that, and I see the business
rapidly heading towards a commodity market. Let's face it- everything in the
computer isn't worth more than a couple hundred bucks.

So CPU's are nearly a commodity, then it should be obvious from study of other commoditity businesses - size and manufacturing ability matter most to contain costs and actually make a profit. That kind of narrows the field a bit in regards to AMD/Cyrix vs Intel.

Future job prospects are a concern, that's why I invest in winning companies so I don't have to worry about a "job". If you've been picking your own stocks and AMD has been your top pick, I'd see a job counselor or career advisor as you may not be seeing the future job market clearly either.

I sure wish you'd tell Seagate the 18GB 10K rpm scsi drive I want isn't worth more than a couple hundred bucks. Also, let Exabyte know my 8mm just crocked and I'd like a new mammoth drive for a few hundred as well. I'd like the NEC 19" LCD for a couple hundred and GB of ram for $200, or a RW DVD RAM, etc.,etc.
