QUALCOMM Expands the pdQ Internet Access with its New pdQsuite Package

- The pdQ Internet Applications Package Extends the Palm Computing Platform
for Professionals on the Go -

NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM),
pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital
wireless technology, today announced the introduction of the pdQsuite(TM)
package of advanced Internet applications designed for use with the pdQ(TM)
smartphone and other Palm Computing(R) platform-based devices. The pdQsuite
package includes the pdQmail(TM) application, an advanced e-mail program, and
the pdQbrowser(TM) application, an Internet-standard micro web browser.
Expected to become available in the first half of 1999, the pdQsuite package
is an integral part of the pdQ smartphone. The advantages offered by the
pdQsuite package will also be available to users of other Palm Computing
platform devices in a free 30-day trial version and will be available for
purchase through the QUALCOMM Store, an Internet-based retail shop at
qualcomm.com.
"The pdQsuite package will offer Palm users a sophisticated group of
applications that supports complete e-mail control and wireless Internet
browsing," said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, president of QUALCOMM Consumer Products.
"Direct access to the Internet and to vital data no longer depends on landline
connections or proxy servers. The doorway to the Internet and the world of
information that it represents can now be opened directly by the consumer,
anytime, anywhere -- and the pdQsuite package provides the key."

pdQbrowser
A text-based browser that can retrieve and view any standard HTML-based
web page, the pdQbrowser application supports inline hypertext links and HTTP
retrieval as well as advanced features such as a user-configurable cache,
bookmarks, text formatting, forms fields and buttons.

pdQmail
QUALCOMM's new pdQmail e-mail package allows users to receive, read,
compose, send and manage e-mail on any Palm Computing platform device. The
package also offers advanced sorting, filing, folder-creation, reply and
address book look-up features. The new pdQmail program supports various
Internet protocols including POP3, SMTP and LMOS as well as HTML message
composition and viewing.

pdQmail Conduit
A Windows(R) 95/98/NT application that allows users to synchronize their
desktop e-mail with the new pdQmail program, the conduit works with all
MAPI-compliant desktop e-mail programs.
The pdQsuite package offers a number of integrated functions for owners of
the pdQ smartphone, including: launching the pdQmail or pdQbrowser
applications by tapping on an e-mail address or a URL in the Address Book,
respectively; auto-dialing a phone number by tapping on its Phone Book
listing; the ability to look up e-mail addresses while composing mail
messages; and default handling of e-mail and web alerts through the
pdQalert(TM) application.

CDMA data capabilities are provided by individual carriers. Availability
and data services will vary from carrier to carrier.
Documentation for the pdQsuite package can be downloaded from QUALCOMM's
web site, qualcomm.com, as either a .pdf file or in HTML format.
