i respect your position, but i must believe not in the textbook response or case study you cite.....i offer my opinion based on real world, shirt sleeve operation of a very profitable (long term) organization....you refer to mu raising prices against low demand "for no other reason then they could"...doesn't that oppose your "making money in the long run" comment...for it surely doesn't apply to mu.
business is basic...all the mba's and theory in the universe do not guarantee success...you must know your business, do that which is necessary to assure profit, and most important keep your plant operating and your employees working, regardless of economic times...there are no formulas which tell you when to react to pricing, competition, etc...you must know your market and stay at the leading edge...find a niche and be satisfied and grow within to obtain market share. the object of business is only one...to remain in business, to make profit and meet the fiduciary and moral responsibilty to your employees and shareholders......no more, no less very basic...thanks for the stimulating conversation
