Spot on. I feel the same way. That the Chinese Government, and by extension China Telecom would much rather have in a place a conduit through which Internet traffic must be channeled. At least they can have an attempt to monitor and/or control it.

If everyone has a PC and Microsoft software they won't stand a chance.

So it is in their interests to obviously find the least expensive, but still rich enough functionally, set top box that they can all but give away to encourage the Chinese to hook up via this virtually throw away box rather than have them spend 3 months wages on a WebTV box.
