I love the recent interest in TD. I have held it ever since they took over Waterhouse, and I got shares of TD in exchange for my Waterhouse shares. My basis in TD stock is less than $2.70 per share! I have received more than this in dividends from TD alone. But I have often wondered if the old Waterhouse shareholders would have done better if Waterhouse decided to remain independent. Probably so.

I do wish that if TD does some sort of IPO of part of Waterhouse and/or their entire discount brokerage business, that current TD shareholders either get some shares issued to them, as in a spin off, or that at least they get some consideration in being able to buy the IPO shares at the offering price. I for one, would love to subscribe to such an offering. At present, I am on a list at Waterhouse (they are my broker, of course), where by they will call me from time to time offering me participation in IPO's. So far, they have not offered me anyting of much interest to me. (e.g. I was offered an IPO in a closed end fund - ugg)
