Metman, re With the Q on it's 5th gen chip and the others just beginning; it would seem that the Q
should still maintain the "lead" in quality/stand-by time/reduced power consumption etc.
for some time to come; though the vendors obviously now have choices....as Intel does
to AMD, so might QCOM do to the "other guys" after a while.

Or does the ARM Risc processor put most of the chip-set vendors on an even playing
field, along with the Q? Anyone have any thoughts?

Q's 6th generation was announced today. When you look at the features given in the release, along with new software, tools, and the other parts of the chipset solution, I think you will see that Q still has a substantial lead. Also, before anyone gets bent out of shape by the presence of ASIC competitors, please remember that Q has licensed these competitors as part of its overall business plan for cdma. Why would anyone think they understand the basis and dynamics of Q's business model better than its author(s) (eg. Irwin Jacobs)?

Regards,
Jim
