NF, that looked like a butterfly taking off in Russia. With all the gloom and doom in Russia, Asia [the contagion], Brazil etc and with Yeltsin flying in a sick state to Jordan along with many other people who think: 'I'm a really big important person with friends in the highest places', all worrying about what will happen in the middle east, Balkans, Taiwan/China etc people think the world economy [as though it is a separate beast from what we all do each day] is going to crash. Throw in Y2K and they are buying generators and heading for Montana.
The cdmaOne butterfly taking off in Russia is called HOPE!
Living things want their lives better. People have a peculiar skill, with the upper limits not even remotely in view, of changing the world around them to make things better for themselves. They do this in concert with other people, like a symphony playing "1812 Overture". Termites work in concert to make a termite mound, but that isn't quite the same thing. Similar law of the universe, but without the imagination and application of a mind.
Hence, The New Paradigm. People treat that as though it's just another tulip mania or 1929 excitement over radio and other new technologies. Sure, things can go wrong as fools fight for power. Not much new there. But even the drives to do that have been diluted by the nature of modern life. The powerful can't just use armed force to take over wealth and usurp it for their own ends.
The wealth no longer derives from owning a lot of land and controlling a crowd of people. The wealth just slips away in the night, like a ghost. Indian Independence was probably supposed to see the quite impressive development of India under British rule continue but with the profits of control going to the new Indian masters. Same in much of Africa - Idi Amin put on a silly hat, called himself the boss and was left with little but the power to kill and eat anyone he chose. Same in Russia and China with the proletariat taking over the 'wealth'. Somehow it went away and didn't come back.
HOPE springs eternal and Q! is giving a LOT of hope.
Let's review some hopeful attempts: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Started By: Maurice Winn Date: Apr 9 1996 4:49PM ET Will CDMA succeed in Los Angeles [at last]? How is CDMA going in Hong Kong, Korea, Trenton? Do people like it? Will China be the biggest CDMA market? What technical developments are going on? Has Nextwave Telecom bid too much in PCS spectrum auctions? Will notebook computers with built in CDMA phone take the world by storm?
Will you get rich from CDMA and Qualcomm?
Related topics: Eudora - the email you are probably using Globalstar - the satellite phone system -------------------------------------------------------------------- It isn't quite 3 years since those questions were asked. Who'd have thunk the progress would be so striking? [Apart from me].
Yes, CDMA is a huge success in Los Angeles.
People love CDMA and it is a big success in Trenton, Korea and doing pretty well in Hong Kong.
China seems likely to be the biggest CDMA market once WWeb is decided.
Technical developments are piling up. Now the MSM3100! WK, WWeb ...
NextWave sure enough did bid too much with spectrum re-auction coming up which shows that human progress isn't smoothly heading for Utopia = expect some judder bars, such as Zenit, Long Term Capital Management, Global Financial Panic and Black-Holes theories causing a big sucking sound.
CDMA Notebook computers are arriving - pdQ, Motorola's effort - more coming.
Will you get rich from CDMA and Qualcomm? = I'm doing very nicely! $ill is still ahead of Irwin but Irwin is doing very well. $ill came calling and wanted in so Irwin said okay, let's do WirelessKnowledge.
Eudora? Well, another judder bar on the road to Nirvana, but it might yet metamorphose into a currency carrier leading to a Q! account for managing WWeb financial transactions.
Globalstar, AZ! [After Zenit]. Still going. It's been bumpy. Power brokers squabbling over it. Bernie Schwartz was found to be a Russian and Chinese spy handing over soldering secrets and bribes to Clinton who was impeached for being more attractive to women than Lott and Starr. Xena Albright xooming around the world signing parchments to protect the 12 year old boy's club power bases.
But any minute, there might be a successful launch. If it blows up, it doesn't mean it's the end of The New Paradigm, which is not a new toy made of plastic which breaks after using it once. Just as the evolution of a cerebral cortex didn't go away like some new-fangled idea with no merit, The New Paradigm isn't going away either.
It's just getting warmed up - like a zygote. We've never seen what THIS zygote is going to turn into, but it isn't going to be a hybrid chicken and horse. Then again, it might be a bit like Pegasus - if I have that analogy right.
Zygote to Zeitgeist!
