Has an effective monopoly of the Australian market, for what it's worth. However, this is far from an entrepreneurial operation. Its competitors like Cable+Wireless/Optus could grow much faster in the domestic market, and it stands no chance of succeeding in the Asia Pacific market. There was a much-vaunted rollout of a Hewlett-Packard Broadband (BIDS) facility in major cities but this has turned sour with mounting costs and high charges. Has good international relationships with major players such as Microsoft and AT+T, so will continue to 'own' the Australian territory for these groups.
