Hi, Uri & amic

I don't trade with an online brokerage (well actually, that's not entirely correct, had one in Oct 87 - couldn't get through, and closed the account). And have been looking around lately to maybe open one.

Re: Buying stock in a cash account and limit orders -
I think I have always been able purchase stock from a cash account even if I didn't have enough money in that account. I thought that you have up to the settlement date to pay for the stock (maybe E*trade is different, I don't know). As far as placing limit orders, most brokerage firms I have dealt with don't(or at least didn't like to) place limit orders for odd lots (45 shares), though once again maybe E*trade is different (or I was misinformed). Placing a market order seems to be like pulling the trigger on a gun - its hard to put the bullet back as its moving down the barrel.

p.s. Is it possible to get IPOs from e trade? has anyone?
