Need help with the following: I owned PSFT on 12/31/98; PSFT announced a spinoff for shareholders of record 12/31/98, 2 shares of the new co. for each 100 shares of PSFT. In January I sold a covered call and on option expiry the stock was assigned since the call was in the money. I thought I would get the spinoff shares, being on record on 12/31/98, but was told that since I did not own PSFT stock on x-day, I did not get them. Can anyone confirm? Answer appreciated!
