Peter, International taxes are not my area. This is all I can suggest:
There might be double taxation. If we are talking a USA citizen and resident then you need to look at the tax treaty with the country involved. Probably a full CREDIT or DEDUCTIOn for the foreign taxes paid.

If you are a non-resident alien again you need to look at the tax treaty. Could be fully USA tax-exempt.

If you are a USA citizen, non-resident then there are some very favorable tax benefits, and again look at the tax treaty.
