Wireless, Inc. Introduces StarPort W-DSL Internet Access Service Check It Out
February 8, 1999 -- Wireless, Inc., a leader in wireless networking, today announced the launch of StarPort, a new service that allows Internet Service Providers (ISP's) the ability to offer Wireless Digital Subscriber Line (W-DSL) Internet access to their business customers located in Tier II and Tier III cities nationwide.
StarPort delivers all mission critical applications including email, web browsing, FTP and Voice over IP (VoIP). StarPort Service provides "always on'' Internet access with end-user bandwidth at speeds up to 512 kbps.
StarPort offers ISP's a hands-off packaged solution to instantly deploy W-DSL, which includes installation, maintenance, and round-the-clock monitoring. The service will broaden the providers' product offerings, increase the size of their accessible markets and augment their revenue potential. StarPort provides a low cost of entry to enable Internet access providers to take control of their customer's local access with a quality-dedicated network.
"StarPort is a revolutionary interconnect solution for ISP's to build their own networks and enter new markets, where high speed, affordable, Internet access is not readily available through wired solutions,'' commented Stephen C. Miller vice president -- StarPort.
StarPort deploys W-DSL technology engineered by Wireless, Inc. The WaveNet® IP 2458 wireless access router, which was also announced today, is used to deploy W-DSL for StarPort Networks. The WaveNet IP 2458 is a point-to-multipoint wireless access router, operating in the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz license free ISM bands with system capacity up to 20 Mbps per central site.
Central to remote line of site transmission distances can be up to 20 miles (32 km), providing rapid network connections based on Internet Protocol. StarPort is deployed in a typical star topology and is integrated directly into an access provider's point of presence (POP).
MultiLink Wireless Solutions, Inc. is deploying the first StarPort Internet network to their business customers within Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola, Fla. MultiLink has built a wireless local loop distribution network from their Network Operations Center (NOC) in Fort Walton Beach and will continue to build out their network to provide affordable Internet access solutions and web services.
"StarPort is the local access answer for building our wireless Internet network from New Orleans to Jacksonville. StarPort allows us to provide our business and government customers with greater access speeds and instant connectivity, as compared to land based solutions,'' commented Jeff Hammond president of MultiLink Wireless Solutions, Inc.
"After extensive investigation we identified Wireless, Inc. and the StarPort program as the best candidate in regards to equipment reliability, capability, and service to support our deployment efforts,'' continued Hammond.
