Maybe I'll stay out of this until we can fight over what kind of torture and who gets tortured.

Bit silly, though, as torture and crime have so little to do with each other. Why don't we go into what is better, torturing 5% of the population and keeping the Dow over 10,000 or eliminating torture and letting it slip below 8000.

If you want a debate of principle vs. practical effect, a real-world example would be much more fun. I'm sure you can think of one. If you can't Terrence will, with minimal provocation.
