"Why would anyone think they understand the basis and dynamics of Q's business model better than its author(s) ...." GREED and Pride; two of the seven deadly sins. Greed to lower the costs and make more money; Pride that they can do as well or better. But, the point is well taken that as the market grows, Qcom can afford to lose market share in ASIC's and make it up on royalties. What would be neat, however, is if Qcom ASIC's continued to be used on the new handsets (a la Intel) and proprietary, in-house for the older, less-expensive models. I don't think that the handset manufacturers have that in mind, though.
