Sean,

Your research more or less parallels mine, though your hunt
is more immediate.

The Epsons are in the top of their class according to my
friend the Nikon salesman (he should be my friend; I've
bought several thousand dollars worth of equipment from
him). This is a Nikon factory rep, btw, not a local
photo shop guy, although I usually see him in the local
photo shop.

Doesn't mean there aren't other brands worth a look, but
I have also heard the Epson comparison to the 8000 buck Kodaks
(favorable comparisons). The later Epson's have vastly
improved in text-on-photo and plain text performance
as well (same sources).

This message is being brought to you from my new
Celeron OC'd to 450, I might add <g>. I'm still frustrated
by disk partitions and booting. Partitions created by
PM 4.01 have not improved the situation in that respect.
I will continue to expect the worst and plan accordingly,
an attitude that has stood me in good stead over the years
<ggg>.

In short, depend on nobody. That is my secondary Life's
Motto. My primary life's motto is: Keep plugging. Or,
a different way of putting it which, unfortunately, I
didn't write but merely quote (from an unremembered source):

Patience and perseverance
Made a bishop of His Reverence
