II Peter 3
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
God's grace has saved us from the burden of sin. God's grace has undone our shackles and the chains have dropped to the ground. By God's grace we need never put them on again to be weighed down by the weight of sin. To be stedfast in Christ is a work, it is a discipline, yet it is by God's grace that we can remain stedfast. As soon as we take our eyes off the object of our faith and believe that we can enter into sin again, thinking that by our own strength we will emerge unscathed we are preparing to "be led away with the error of the wicked." |
