anyone who thinks that msn hasn't tried everything it can do beat aol is kidding themselves

MSN has made a bunch of mistakes along the way, but Microsoft isn't trying everything it can to beat AOL. It was clear from his trial testimony that Steve Case knows they aren't trying everything they can to compete with AOL.

MS was willing to back off the advantages MSN had because it was far more important for MS to kill Netscape -- something they were successful at doing. In return for getting IE into AOL's software, MS was willing to ship AOL's software and give them a premium placement on the desktop of new machines. That decision effectively scuttled the MSN-as-AOL business model. Microsoft was willing to give up ISP market share in return for browser market share.
