STAR Telecommunications Announces Advances in North American Network Deployment
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 1999--STAR Telecommunications, Inc. (Nasdaq:STRX - news), the seventh largest provider of long distance services in the United States, today announced a major advancement in the deployment of its North American network.
STAR is now six months ahead of schedule with its nationwide feature group ''D'' tandem CIC deployment. The company expects to have ubiquitous origination and termination capability in every RBOC tandem in the United States by June of 1999.
''We have reached a significant milestone in the company's domestic network build-out,'' said Chris Edgecomb, chairman and CEO of STAR. ''These advancements will enable STAR to originate one plus, residential, commercial, dial around (101-6868), and toll-free calls from anywhere in the United States to anywhere in the world through our global network.
''We will be migrating a total of 100 million minutes per month to this network between now and the end of the second quarter of 1999. This will significantly reduce the company's costs and expand our addressable market, enabling our sales force to sell one plus services in every state in the U.S.''
STAR also expects to expand its dial around services (101-6868) from eleven states to the entire continental U.S. There are currently only six U.S. carriers with a nationwide feature group ''D'' network and STAR expects to be the seventh with this capability, further enhancing the company's stature as a world class carrier.
Combined with STAR's plans to construct an extensive network throughout Germany this year, this deployment will give the company a ubiquitous network throughout two of the world's top three telecommunications markets. This has not been accomplished by any carrier in the world to date.
