Good post - I also hold both AOL and T and my philosophy is buy and hold blue chip technology companies.

Most cable companies have an unfair competitive advantage in that they are given complete control (read monopoly) over a locality. Take my co., Arlington Cable (VA). They were just handed a sweetheart, 10 year deal a few months ago - and for what? They are very expensive: something like $39/month for preferred (no HBO, or showtime, or anything like that) which is a complete ripoff. Why wasn't this contract opened for competitive bids - in todays day and age??? They made very few concessions in terms of increasing the number of channels offered; public access, etc.

By the way, is there a date set for the split?
