REDMOND, Wash., Feb 9 (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp.

(Nasdaq:MSFT - news), the world's largest seller of personal-computer software, on Tuesday said licenses for its Microsoft Windows 98, its most recent operating system, hit 25 million units worldwide since its release in June.

Microsoft, which is the subject of a closely watched anti-trust suit, also said holiday sales of licenses for the software operating system hit 3 million units, a record for the company during a Christmas shopping season.

The company also reported that peripheral devices for Windows 98 are also posting record growth, but did not cite specific numbers.
