Dell and Wal-Mart Join Ranks of Top Ten
General Electric is the Most Admired Company in America for the second consecutive year, according to FORTUNE's annual survey of the country's business men and women. The top ten list of America's Most Admired Companies, along with a list of where some 469 companies rank in their own industries, appears in the March 1 issue of FORTUNE.
New to the top ten list this year are Dell Computer (No.4) and Wal-Mart Stores (No.6), two companies that have achieved impressive growth and shareholder returns through focused use of technology. The other companies earning distinction as America's top ten Most Admired are: Coca-Cola (No.2), Microsoft (No.3), Berkshire Hathaway (No.5), Southwest Airlines (No.7), Intel (No.8), Merck (No.9) and Walt Disney (No.10). For the first time since the list was inaugurated in 1983, J.P. Morgan lost its first place ranking in the money center banks category to Citicorp. The bank is third in its industry category this year. >> |
