I've lived out in the boondocks in Southern Illinois, with my wife and kids, on a little bluff a 100 yards from a county road. I've had people park on the bridge and heard them emptying pistols into my creek and shooting up my walnut trees. A little wilder world and I would have destroyed their pickup with my 7mm from the bluff. Now I wouldn't confront them -- I simply later post a sign. I've wakened in the middle of the night when my auto lights flashed on and sounded the alarm with two strange cars parked in my front yard, surrounded by mine and Shorty's barking dogs (they dare not get out of the cars or the redbone and the three GSH's would tear them into shreds, and picked up the model 12 behind the door, yelled at them to turn off their lights, spotlighted them and told whem how to get to town or the freeway, just get away from me. Without the gun, I would have to cower behind locked doors or expect to be massacred.
