MSFT and filling holes in its abilities

One of the nice things that will most likely come out of the Court Case in Washington is a finding by the trial judge that Microsoft IS a monopoly. If the Judge makes this finding, which is I believe a finding of fact and thus unlikely to be overturned on appeal (the remedies are something else), it will mean that Microsoft will not be able to buy any company in the future without government approval. So buying Banyan to fill the directory gap is going to be next to impossible.

As many people understand it, the reason IBM made DOS an open operating system with published source code was the aftermath of its monopoly suit with the government. They simply couldn't make DOS a proprietary OS and have it fly with the Justice Department. This is the monkey that Gates is putting on his back.
