A friend of mine got ADSL service last week here in Atlanta. I tried it yesterday and it blew me and my 56k modem away. THIS is how the net should be: short of individual servers slowing you down, opening pages is nearly instantaneous, streaming audio and video playback are too.

With ADSL there is no such thing as "getting on line"--you're ALWAYS on line with a constant connection. Voice is on the SAME line, carried on a frequency that rides above the net frequencies, so you've effectively got two lines in one (for only $60 friggin bucks a month for business service). Plus, my friend says the voice aspect of the ADSL sounds cleaner and clearer on voice calls--he's an audio engineer, so I trust his assessment.

This is an impressive announcement IMO. Once the California market gets hip to ADSL, FNET could be knee deep in installs--a nice new revenue stream.
