i like leaps, money can be made by buying, they do give a bit more time than a short term product gives you...i still prefer to be on the other side...a tremendous portfolio can be built with other peoples money...simple strategy..buy 100 shares of dell at 100, write a jan 01 100call(zdeat)(higher strike even better, just trying to remain basic) and receive $40..your cost of dell is 60(100-40) worse that could happen is in jan 01 dell is above 100 and it is called away your profit 100-100+40 or perhaps 20%per annum..if it goes down you pocket the 40 sell another and keep on reducing your cost basis to nil...this is not theoretical but tangible...for every 300 shares you buy, and 3 contracts you write you get cash to buy another 100 shares at today's price and enough cash left over for some candy bars...it's the chocolate that makes me sleep at night! and the uncovered "free" shares i keep for the future!
